Being a pharmacist, we come across many many common misconception being practiced by Chemist Shop owners is the term 'Medical shop' actually is wrong and being used in India for more than 50 years. It should actually be used as Chemist Shop. i.e. Retail Chemist or Wholesale chemist if someone engaged in wholesale drugs.
The term Medical shop is wrong because, there is a MCI: Medical Council of India to look after the transactions of Graduation of Doctors, Post graduate Doctors and to approve new college admissions Hospitals or Postgraduate Courses as MD., MS., etc.
In a similar manner PCI; Pharmacy Council of India is also doing the same business, that is. issuing licences and approving educational institutions and registering a pharmacist who are newly graduated.
Medical council is nurtures Medical Doctors, and Pharmacy Council of India nurtures Pharmacist provides registration of B.Pharm Graduate, Diploma Pharmacy, and M.Pharm Post Graduate Pharmacy degree holders and one can run a retail chemist i.e.Chemist and Druggists.
Meanwhile, there is Dental council of India nurtures Dentists and Nursing Council of India nurtures Nurses welfare education and welfare of the society.
